LuckyDrawTM is a differentiated Lottery product where many players participate with small amounts of money and some of them win big amounts of money. The entire game runs on blockchain ensuring 100% reliability, security and safety of player funds and game outcomes.
To better understand how to play LuckyDrawTM, we need to first understand the important terminologies of the game. Below are some of the key definitions:
-
Contest - A contest is one round of LuckyDrawTM game where “N” players (eg. N = 100) put in money to create a Prize Pool by buying Tickets to participate.
-
Contest Card - A contest card is a card like UI element which shows all the important information about the contest details such Prize Pool, Ticket Price, %Chance, Time Left etc. It is shown under the “Live Contests” section of the home page. Please refer to the below image:

-
Contest Page - A Contest Page is the detailed description with additional information about a given Contest. A player can visit the Contest Page of any Contest by clicking anywhere on the given Contest Card. Please refer to the below image to see a Contest Page:

-
Prize Pool - A prize pool is calculated by multiplying total number of purchased tickets with Price of an individual Ticket i.e. # of purchased Tickets x Ticket Price. There are 3 different states of prize pool in a given contest:
-
Maximum Prize Pool - Every contest has a maximum limit of number of tickets that can be purchased in total. When you multiply the maximum tickets with the ticket price and subtract the platform fees, you get maximum prize pool. A player can see this value before they join a contest as shown in the below image:

-
Live Prize Pool - In any live contest, the total number of live tickets sold multiplied by the ticket price and then subtracting the platform fees gives you the live prize pool. A player can see this value after they have joined in a contest as shown in the below image:

-
Final Prize Pool - After a contest ends, the total number of tickets sold until its end multiplied by the ticket price and deducting the platform fees gives you the final prize pool. A player can see this in the “Recent Contests” section of the home page by scrolling down as shown in the below image:

-
-
Ticket - A ticket is a contest pass with which a player can buy a unique serial number to participate in a particular contest. Every ticket is unique and has an equal chance of winning a prize from the pool. A player can buy multiple tickets in a contest to increase their chances of winning prize money. A player can click on the yellow coloured “Buy Tickets” button on the contest card to join a contest as shown in the image below:

-
Ticket Price - The ticket price is the price of a single ticket in any contest. The ticket price may vary contest to contest. A player can view the ticket price on every contest on the left side of the yellow coloured “Buy Tickets” button on the Contest Card. Please refer to the image below:

-
% Chance - % Chance means the percentage of total purchased tickets that will win a prize in that contest. For an example, if a contest has 100 purchased tickets then a 30% under the %Chance label on contest card means 30% out of 100 tickets will win any cash prizes i.e. 30 tickets. Please refer to the image below:

-
Maximum Tickets - The maximum tickets label on the Contest Page means the maximum number of tickets that can be purchased in a given contest. A player can visit the Contest Page by clicking on the Contest Card. This number is fixed for any given contest. Please refer to the below image:

-
Tickets Left - The tickets left label on the Contest Card Page means the total number of remaining tickets that can be purchased in a contest. A player can visit the Contest Page by clicking on the Contest Card. This number decreases as more and more tickets are purchased and eventually becomes 0 if all the tickets are purchased in a given contest and the contest is declared sold out. Please refer to the below image:

-
Time Left - The time left label on the Contest Page means the time left till the contest ends. A player can visit the Contest Page by clicking on the Contest Card. Players can purchase tickets in a contest until this timer hits zero.

-
Platform Fees (Platform Commissions) - LuckyDrawTM charged 10-30% of the total pool value of every contest to cover the costs of staff, marketing, servers and other expenses to keep the platform running for the best experience. The commissions are less in smaller pools and more in larger pools.
-
Cancellation - Sometimes, due to unforseen circumstances like not enough liquidity or technology disruptions a contest may be cancelled. Under these circumstances, the purchased value of the tickets are auto-refunded to your Winning Balance. A player can see Cancelled Contests in the “Recent Contests” section of the Home Page with an orange coloured “Cancelled” label in the middle of these past Contest Cards. Please see the image below for reference:

Having understood the basics, lets understand how to play the game and win big cash prizes:
Step 1 - Choose a Contest - Choose a contest carefully based on the risk-reward analysis. This can be analysed by looking at the %Chance label on the contest card. If you see carefully, contests are categorised into 2 types:
a. YOLO (You Only Live Once) - These type of contests have high risk and the rewards on winning are the highest across all contest types. The %Chance of these contests is 30% i.e. only 30% of purchased tickets win non-zero cash prizes in these contests. This contest is for risk-tolerant players.
b. YODO (You Only Die Once) - These type of contests have moderate to low risk and the rewards on winning are moderately higher. The %Chance of these contests is 50% i.e. atleast 50% of purchased tickets win non-zero cash prizes in these contests. This contest is for risk-averse players.
Step 2 - Understanding Prize Distribution - Please click on any contest card to view the prize distribution chart inside. Lets say 100 players buy 1 lottery ticket each in a contest; so there are 100 unique lottery tickets participating in one contest. Here is how the game works:
a. The game mechanics is a classic game of chance example. Once the Contest is closed after either time runs out or maximum tickets of the contest gets sold out; the LuckyDrawTM game contract interacts with ChainLink VRF (Verifiable Random Function) contract and randomly draws (chooses/picks) 1 ticket out of the pool of 100 tickets and declares it as the winner of 1st Prize. Since getting chosen in 1st Draw has least probability (1/100; to put it differently, 1st Draw is the luckiest of all draws); this ticket gets rewarded the highest cash prize i.e. 1st Prize. Then the game contract repeats this process of drawing (choosing/ picking) tickets one by one sequentially. So for the 2nd Draw, it picks 1 Ticket out of the pool of remaining 99 Tickets (the 1st Prize is NOT included in this pool) with 1/99 probability to declare it as the winner of the 2nd prize and so on. This process is repeated until the Prize Pool is zero.
b. Another important thing to note in Prize Distribution is the Prize Slabs beyond the 1st, 2nd and 3rd Prize. If you look carefully in the table (please use the slider to see the change of prize distribution by increasing the # of purchased tickets of a contest) you can see that most times 4th, 5th and beyond prize amounts could be given to multiple tickets. So if the table says 4th Prize ; 50 DAI ; 5 Players i.e. all 5 players will get 50 DAI each and so on.
c. In summary, as the # of draws increases, the size of prizes decreases. The luckier (getting picked in the early draws) you are, the more money you win.
d. You can always move the slider in the prize distribution chart to see what is the cash prize amount at different number of tickets sold in a given contest.
Step 3 - Purchase Tickets - Once you understand the contest types and prize distribution, the game become very easy. All you have to do is buy tickets through your crypto wallet and wait for the contest to end. The contest can end in two cases; either the contest time runs out or all of the tickets for a contest are sold out. A single wallet will usually have a purchase limit in single contest to avoid tickets accumulations; however this limit can vary from contest to contest.
Step 4 - Wait for Contest to End - Once you have placed your bets by purchasing tickets, just relax, drink a coffee, watch a movie or go out for a walk :) No user action is required until the contest ends by itself.
Step 5 - See Contest Results - After the contest ends, the results usually takes 1-2 minutes to calculate. To view detailed results,
a. Please click on the contest card in your “My Contests” tab on the left menu bar.
b. Scroll down to view finished contests in the “My Results” section of the page.
c. If you have won any cash prize, the contest card will have a green coloured label stating “WON” on it.
d. To see more details, click on the contest card and look at “My Tickets” section inside of it.
e. If a contest is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, 100% of the value of purchased tickets will be auto-refunded to the Winnings Balance. A player can play again with that money or withdraw at their discretion.
Step 6 - Win, Lose, Draw; Play Again - As a simple strategy to win, hedge your bets across different contest types and purchase more number of tickets to increase your probability of getting picked as a winning ticket and end up winning massive amounts of cash. Please play responsibly.
